TVA is a professional organization that brings together Veterinary Professionals in Tanzania. Our mission is to promote animal welfare, public health, and the Veterinary Profession’s interests. We work towards achieving our mission by engaging in various activities, including organizing events such as the World Veterinary Day with the supports of various actors including Government, Private Sector and Non-Governmental Organizations.
The World Veterinary Day (WVD) was established in 2000, by the initiative of the World Veterinary Association (WVA) in collaboration with the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) to celebrate the contributions of veterinarians in promoting animal health and welfare. Since then, WVD is cerebrated every last Saturday of April every year.
This year in Tanzania, WVD cerebrations started on 26 April and reached climax on 29th April 2023, the day that is cerebrated globally by all Veterinary Professionals.

The WVD is an opportunity for Veterinary Professionals to emphasize the importance of Veterinary Professionals in improving animal and public health. As part of contribution to the community, TVA conduct a series of activities that aim to achieve the following:
- Increase Animal Health Awareness and Motivation to Girls: We believe that there is a gender gap in the Veterinary Profession, and we aim to encourage more girls to consider careers in animal-related fields. We will provide animal health education and motivation to girls to inspire them to pursue Veterinary careers.
- Animal Health Services to Stakeholders: We will offer animal health services to stakeholders for all categories of animals. These services will help prevent and control diseases, promote animal welfare, and improve the health and productivity of livestock.
- Animal Health Services to People with Special Needs: We recognize the importance of the human-animal bond and the role of animals in improving livelihood and the quality of life for people with special needs. We will provide animal health services to these individuals to improve health of their animals and contribute to the improvement of their quality of life.
- Collaboration with Government: The cerebrations will be honoured by the Government. The Guest of Honour will take part in different WVD activities including visiting Exhibitions and Service Delivery Points to learn about the various activities and services being offered by TVA in collaboration with stakeholders. This will help raise awareness about the critical role of veterinarians in society.
- Certificate Awards Ceremony to Participating Companies: We recognize that without the participation of other stakeholders including private companies we cannot achieve the intended goals. TVA and Guest of Honour who will be The Regional Commissioner of Mwanza will award Certificates as part of recognitions of their outstanding commitment and contribution to animal health and welfare.
